Andy Miller is the founder and CEO of
Miller Consulting. With more than 20 years as an
information technology opinion leader, Andy is a
pioneer in the field of technology marketing and
public relations.
Andy was among the first to recognize that the
old paradigms of marketing and brand positioning no
longer apply. Now, more than ever, survival in the
marketplace depends on new marketing communications
models, grounded in a unified strategy that
originates from, and is endorsed by, top management
- and implemented at every level of the
corporation.
The supporting principles that comprise Miller
Consulting are born out of a conviction that many
companies, seeking to position themselves in the
highly competitive technology marketplace,
dramatically underestimate the impact of
communications programming by considering PR a
tactical, not strategic, initiative. In conceiving
Miller Consulting, Andy set out to build a public
relations firm driven by strategy and designed to
create superior mind share for clients through a
unique service model that defines the practice of
change-driven strategic communications.
Andy has a proven track record in identifying
and responding to the continually evolving needs of
the high-tech marketplace. In 1977, Andy founded
Miller Communications, now Miller/Shandwick
Technologies, the first firm to specialize in
public relations for the IT industry. He led that
firm from a one-person start-up to a $60 million,
nine-office, global public relations network. More
importantly, he set standards for high tech public
relations that are emulated coast-to-coast, and
which have been fundamental in launching and
guiding such industry leaders as Apple, Compaq,
Intel, Microsoft and Lotus to positions of market
dominance.
Prior to founding Miller Communications, Andy
served in various editorial capacities at Little,
Brown & Co., as staff writer for the Associated
Press, and as Associate Editor of The Harvard
Business Review.
He is currently on the Advisory Board for the Internet Capital Group, VennWorks Inc., and
Bullhorn, Inc., and is a member of Walnut
Venture and Common Angels, venture groups comprised
of select technology and investment leaders
targeting emerging technologies and promising
start-ups. Andy is also on the Advisory Council for
Neurobiology at the Harvard Medical School. He has
served as a member of the Governor's Committee on
Telecom Policy for the State of Massachusetts,
known as Mass Telecom, an early member of the
Massachusetts Software Council, and a Trustee of
the Computer Museum.
Andy graduated from Boston University. He has
been published widely and has served on a number of
industry, education and conservation boards.
